In that initial session with Griffin one of the things we decided that was necessary when taking the hundred-day challenge was the alias. Out and out lying about who I was. I thought about it, and decided that it wasn’t entirely a bad idea. You constantly hear about guys giving out fake numbers, fake names, and out-and-out lying about themselves to get a girl in bed. It was something I had to tackle eventually, and might tackle in the future.
I confidently walked up to a brunette under the name Parker. I told her that I was working on publishing a book on my year in Europe, and all the drunken misadventures I had in Paris, Milan, and the like. I kept the lies small, believable. I changed my major, my school. I was surprised she bought it as much as she did, and she was that interested in Parker, but then again, who wouldn’t be? I told her all about how this Parisian waitress, with chestnut hair in a tight ponytail, and hazel eyes stole my soul for a weekend before disappearing like a phantom.
I think I may have broke her heart more than the fictional French girl broke mine, because she eventually started kissing me outside the bar. I promised to hand deliver her an early copy of the book, when the kinks were ironed out with my editor. And I walked into the night slowly letting Parker die as quickly as he was born.
that’s scary.
