I spent Thanksgiving back home in suburbia. I am not foolish enough to try and score a date on Thanksgiving.  Quite frankly, in the list of things I’m thankful for, it ranks somewhere in the middle.  I needed a day off, and to be not entirely drunk. I figure the lack of available women, at least available desirable women, on Thanksgiving was a nice little way to get a break and regroup.

I did, however, spend my day hanging out with the coolest girl in the world, my niece Chloe. Chloe’s my seven-year-old niece, and perhaps the only person I can stand in my family. She’s a total bookworm, and way too smart for her age. When she masters the art of sarcasm, she will be a total force to be reckoned with. Thank God, she’s under my masterful tutelage.

While I was watching football and drinking cheap beer, she begged and pleaded for me to play Scrabble with her. I obliged, because frankly brown eyes and adorable smiles are my weakness.  I’d be lying if I said she didn’t come dangerously close to beating me at Scrabble. To my credit though, I did help her out the entire time. The couple beers I had and football distractions didn’t exactly hurt her chances, but I also think she’s a whole heck of a lot smarter than some of the girls I’ve been with recently.  If only my life was an indie movie, then my niece could be the answer to all my life problems. She would smack me around and point out the right girl for me.
