Day 25 (11/30/09): The Texting Queen

Posted: December 3, 2009 by 100 Girls, 100 Days in Uncategorized

I should have probably assumed that I was setting myself up for disaster when I met this particular girl from Match.com. I officially knew I was in trouble midway through dinner when she whips up the phone for the first time. But, the first time doesn’t bother me. Nor does the second, nor the third. But the fourth is the one that gets me. The fourth is the one where it becomes pretty evident that it’s rude, and it’s a fixation. I sat there and ordered a double. It was a nice little sick cycle.  She’d text, I’d drink, and we’d both be mutually uninterested in the other.

I wasn’t really feeling this date from the get-go, I was feeling a bit morose. She probably assumed I was an alcoholic, which of course I kind of am, but  what else am I supposed to do on a bad date. I really wasn’t putting much effort in.  After an hour or so at dinner. I was four drinks deep and finally managed to get the check.  Outside the restaurant we stood there awkwardly for a moment. She told me that she had a great time, which I didn’t believe for a second, but she went straight up and kissed me on the lips. And in a knee-jerk reaction I kissed her back for a few seconds before breaking it off. I told her that I’d call her the next day, which of course I wouldn’t.

Ha! That annoys the hell out of me. At the very least it shows a lack of consideration for you and your time.

Barring an explanation my interest goes down, no matter how cool the girl is.

Try turning off your phone in front of the girl then putting it away. Sometimes people need subtle cues.
