Moments after I posted the ad on the internet, I had to get ready for my date for the evening. With the week I was having I was seriously looking for a break. Fortunately for me, I was looking for a savior in a sinner, my friend Kara. We have an odd little friendship. Barely speaking while we were in college together, we became weird Internet friends, and forged a sacred bond over the scotch-soaked rocks.

The only way to cap off a week of black-out binge drinking and bad decisions is to hit New York City, and it’s bar scene, hard, fast, and guerilla style. We had forties on the subway, stole nips of Jameson from my flask, and drowned in a sea of scotch and slurred speech. The plan was to get annihilated, and to do it right and in style. We hit up a few of the kitschy pseudo-speakeasy environments. Teacup Manhattans, paper-brown bags, and armed with a flask as my bulletproof vest helped to make us long for the days of prohibition and sneaking our sins away. We were determined to let go of the crappy downward slopes we were on and just focus on having fun. And fun we had, I honestly couldn’t remember laughing as much as I did. Of course, my memory is spotty at best because of my vices, but I imagine it was a lot of laughter.

By the time early morning set in we stumbled to my apartment back to my apartment, and I tossed her some clothes to sleep in. She promptly started de-pantsing in front of me. Most people would assume that it was drunken bravado, but Kara is hardly one for modesty.  And I couldn’t help but sneak more than my share of peeks.  As she was putting on a pair of pajama pants, I commented.

I’m going to have a bad day in the project you know.

She just waltzed over and kissed my cheek.

Poor boy.

And then I receive a slap to the face and a raise of an eyebrow.  I erupt in laughter and tell her that she is crazy. I even tried to go in for the kiss, but couldn’t stop laughing.  She elbowed me, and told me to shut up.
